My Fashion on a Shoestring *~*

I have always loved sourcing secondhand clothes, even when I was a little girl I used to count the days until our guides and brownie pack hosted the quarterly Jumble sale, so I could bag some bargain. I would quite often alter the dresses and tops to fit me, add triangles of material to my jeans to make flares (a 70s fashion)
A flavour of the 1970s look...
So I now have to confess I still do wear and collect, Secondhand (vintage... it sounds better) clothes,. I love twiddling through the hangers in the C S hoping to find something pretty and feminine, it suits my budget and I get an ever changing wardrobe. I do obviously love the chance to buy 'new' clothes, but quite often I never find what I am looking for and get despondent, so this is a post of some of the clothes I have found....
Linen Jacket £2.00... Monsoon summer dress £3.50...
A pretty Monsoon summer skirt £3.00 ...
A linen print dress £5.00....
A ditsy print blouse £2.50...
A feminine Whistles top/dress £4.00 ...
A rosy cotton dress £3.50...
Found a cardi to match £2.50...
A pretty Maxi dress £5.50...cardi to match £2.00...
Red rose top £3.00...
Two pretty floral dresses £4.00...
Knitted waistcoat...
Velvet smock coat £4.00...
Lastly a Per Una Skirt £3.00....I am such a secondhand rose but that's me!!

  1. Hi Thea, what a LOVELY post!! and what truly beautiful clothes you have found - i love them all!especially the velvet coat!! I'm exactly the same as you, I still love a good jumble sale best of all, just as I did as a child, and this year came back with a huge bag of clothes of the local Scout jumble - £1.50 for the WHOLE bag - i think i had around 12 items in there! I've had some nice clothes from the CS recently too xx

  2. Please please stop it, this is torture!! I'm so coming down to your charity shops, you get the most amazing bargains. Here where I live the C Shops treat themselves like boutiques with prices to match. There are a couple I go to where I know the prices will be good or my kinda good but I get so annoyed when they charge more for things than you can buy them new! Well that's my rant over :) Well done you! x

  3. Dear Thea: Some very beautiful things. You are building quite a wardrobe. You failed to mention your two pairs of shoes, but they are quite gorgeous. I love those green ones and have never seen any like them. Your little shops are very nice to carry so many beautiful things at such good prices..Happy Thursday..Judy

  4. What absolutely beautiful finds Thea - I especially love the viola print dress, the velvet coat and the ditsy print blouse. I've had some lovely things from a lady at my local carboot sale. She usually charges £1 or £2 per item and they are all beautifully laundered and pressed.I'm less successful at the charity shops, which are mostly like those that Suzy describes.

  5. I agree with Rustic Vintage Country - the CS around here charge ridiculous prices. When we go to Devon on the other hand the CS are far more realistic and bargains can be found.
    I love your entire collection.
