The Well Dressing.....

Early summer is the season for Well Dressing, it is an ancient festival to say thank you for the source of local water, many villages still hold a special event to mark the occasion. So here are some pictures from one of our neighbouring villages a few days ago. A theme is chosen and the picture created from thousands of flower petals and seeds etc, this one celebrating 200 years of the author Charles Dickens. It was displayed on the village green .............There was a wonderful puppet show for the little ones... .................The best decorated hat competition..... ...............................The Morris Dancers arrived... ......................and they danced the afternoon away... ........................................Then we walked home through the woods... and had tea!!

My Old Dolls House*~*

I still have my childhood dolls house, it has moved with me several times wrapped and stored in the loft where ever I have lived. So I thought it was time I tidied it up. originally it was in the style of a 1960s suburban 'red brick' house by (Triang toys) like this one... but over the years it has lost its windows and doors and become very tatty (my three children have all played with it) Star wars figures, plastic soldiers, knights in armor, Lady lovely locks, Trolls, Sylvanian families (although R2 D2 only rented the lower floor, due to the stairs) as well as my 1960s plastic family have all lived in it. .......................I am not sure where the large doll fits in but she has always lived in the dolls house with the others (what is she wearing) I still have the 1960s TV and the metal sink unit... The little house has always been very dear to me, I can remember the Christmas morning so clearly, there it stood under the tree all wrapped up in snowman paper ................ waiting for me to discover it, my Daddy on hand to help me unwrap it, very special and poignant memories as sadly he died when I was 7 years old. So now I have started restoring it, Fin has mended the roof, and a new front has been added, I then took the rest apart and painted each piece, there is still much to do but I have made a start, my little granddaughter will probably enjoy it when she is older, I wonder who will live in it then !!...................... 1st and 4th pictures sourced from Google Images.

A Summers Day in the Garden !!!

At last the sun has been shining (even if it is just for one day) so I put my summer dress on and my summer flip flops (sorry about the lily white feet) then I picked some flowers for the corners in my home, before the rain comes again! I had a little Blackbird for company... There now where shall I put them?

A Pond For Life*~*

Today we started to dig out a pond for the wildlife, it was a bit of a 'deja vu' moment as we have done this before in our cornish garden Although this one was a bit larger than we have room for now, we have found a space in our front garden for one, so hopefully it will turn out ok. Fin has got stuck in and put his work boots on bless him! We have chosen this area as we have found quite a few frogs out and about, so we are hoping to provide them with a new home. The herb garden is starting to grow, just needs the sun to shine a bit more, I shall add a couple of sages when I find some, I painted some flower pots red and planted them with three tomato plants, added the obelisk and planted it with a few peas, the hanging baskets are planted with trailing nasturtiums, so it is all gradually coming together.(Maisie is enjoying the sun sitting on the bench) A photo of the Delphinium in the back garden, I feel very proud of him as I grew him from a cutting taken from my old garden** And at last the Peony has opened (Sarah Bernhardt)
