A Thyroid problem??

I have been living with a problem that I thought I would share with you.. only because it just might help someone with the same symptoms

Four years ago I started feeling quite unwell..I could not sleep ..always had very cold hands even though I felt hot .. and got very sweaty ( not nice)..felt very tired all the time..and the worse thing, started putting on a lot of weight even though my diet and routine had not changed

Me with my youngest son

I just thought, this was how things were going to be from now on ..and I put it all down to early Menopause ..but then I started to get heart palpitations and that's when I took myself of to the Doctors

I just got bigger and bigger

The Doctor was very good she did an E C G test all the blood tests.. and told me I had high blood pressure

bigger and bigger.. I was so upset as I am only 5ft 1in with size 3 feet I was never meant to be this big (size 18)

Well a week later the Doctors rang me and told me I had Hypertension an under active Thyroid gland
for an unknown reason all of a sudden my immune system had attacked my thyroid gland and  stopped it working.. ( It is a small gland at the base of the neck..but "my o my" it controls so much)

So now I am on tablets for the rest of my life to replace it..
It has been a long journey back for me.. and at last I see someone who I recognise
It has taken 3 years to get my dosage right and a year to lose the weight

I am back now

The high blood pressure has gone and I feel so much better ( although I still have the cold Hands ! but I can live with that..
Thank you for all your support and sweet words
Thea xx

  6. I was convinced I had it last year but my bloods were okay. My Mum had 'the change' early at 38 so I'm sure I'm knocking at the door of the menopause! Glad you are sorted, and yes you look fab - and feel fab too, I bet which is more important!

What an awful thing to go through. Our health is so important. I hve high blood pressure, but try to contain it. I take pills.
Your doctor has really helped, and guided you.
You look absolutely stunning.. not a very nice way to loose weight, but it's far healthier.
Thank you for sharing this Thea.
Your younger son is a handsome young man.

  8. My husband had the same problem as you Thea, only the other way around. He lost lots of weight. The rest of the symptoms were the same. He used pills for some time, but the last two years he is stable.

I am happy to hear you are feeling better too. You look beautiful!!

  11. You look wonderful! I had similar symptoms after being ill last year - they initially thought I had a thyroid problem, the first test was positive but the second test just said that I was borderline. They did however discover that I was iron deficient - very similar symptoms. I'm now on iron tablets and feel much better.

  14. Hello Thea,
My Mum was diagnosed with the same thing a few years back and now takes daily medication. I don't remember her gaining much weight but I do remember the tiredness and cold hands got her down.
It's great that you are feeling like your old self again and you certainly look super to me!
I have size 3 feet too and love the savings I make by often buying children's shoes. (Its not too obvious though I hope!!).

Hi Thea, its so awful when our bodies go wrong,I developed Rheaumatoid arthritus when I was 21 and it has had a massive effect on My life, although drugs have improved over the years there is no cure it has caused me to gain weight as mobility is the biggest problem,so i can completley understand how youve felt.

  23. It's so hard when things happen to your body that you can't explain, but such courage to keep on trying to solve the problem though it's such a shame it took so long for the doctors to figure it out.

take care and have a fabulous weekend,
