A Birthday Tea for my lovely Daughter*~*

My daughter celebrated her birthday this week..so I thought I would invite her to a special afternoon tea..
Garden flowers for the table..
I managed to find a few for a vase...
Floating Hellebore's.....

I made her favourite ...Viennese whirls with homemade bramble jam
Custard biscuits for the little ones...
Cheesy Rabbits....

And of course a Birthday Cake..

We had such a lovely day ...and I still think of her as my little girl even though she now has two daughters of her own...

Happy so so happy....Thea xx

Thank you for your sweet words...here is the recipe I used...

Viennese whirl biscuits

Viennese whirl biscuits
These delicious biscuits are buttery and light. Don’t worry if you’re not an expert at piping, they’ll still look brilliant once they are baked.

Ingredients

For the filling

Preparation method

  1. Preheat the oven to 190C/375F/Gas 5. Line a baking sheet with greaseproof paper.
  2. Put the butter, icing sugar, plain flour, cornflour and vanilla extract in a food processor and blend until smooth. You may need to scrape the mixture down a couple of times with a rubber spatula.
  3. Spoon the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star nozzle. Pipe 16-18 x 6cm/2½in rosettes of the dough, spacing well apart.
  4. Bake in the centre of the oven for 13-15 minutes or until pale golden-brown and firm. Cool on the baking tray for five minutes then transfer to a cooling rack. Repeat with the remaining dough to make 32-36 biscuits.
  5. For the filling, put the butter in a bowl and sift the icing sugar on top. Add the vanilla extract and beat with a wooden spoon or an electric whisk until very light and smooth. Spoon into a clean piping bag fitted with a large star nozzle. Put the jam in a bowl and stir until smooth.
  6. Spoon a little jam onto the flat side of 16 of the biscuits and place jam-side up on the cooling rack. Pipe the buttercream icing onto the remaining biscuits and sandwich with the jam. Put on a serving plate and dust with sifted icing sugar. Serve.

Fallen Trees...*~*

Sunday was a bit of a dull day but dry! so Fin and I decided to go for a walk in our local woods...I love this view, the sound of the water is just magical..
A bit further on this is what we saw....totally shocked at the devastation.... many trees had been uprooted by the recent gales...
huge trees had been damaged and blown down....
The tree surgeons had been in to tidy up...
Trees split in half by angry winds...
We must have counted at least a dozen trees blown down..we were so lucky as we only live 5 minutes away from here
So when we returned home Fin put up two more bird boxes in the garden.. this one is in the privet hedge
And this one in the front garden on the holly tree...
We already have one attached  the garden room ....
And the fourth high up in the Conifer...so hopefully they will help the birds that have lost their trees..

Such Kindness...*~*

A few weeks ago I spotted an "old friend" on Jenny's wonderful blog http://thecustards.blogspot.co.uk he was my childhood egg cup...
An Easter present given to me as a tiny child.....lost long ago
So as you can imagine how I squealed with delight when I spotted him on one of Jenny's post's...
I  left her a comment saying how special it had been to see him again...
Then out of the blue Jenny contacted me and asked me if I would like him...she wanted him to go to a good home...bless her

So when the little parcel arrived you can imagine my delight ...I did not open it straight away as I had to psych myself up to meeting "My" piggy eggcup again...
I squealed again with delight at the sight of him, he took me right back to my family home in Kent and the old  kitchen table where we used to sit for our meals...

I can still see him proudly holding a little Easter egg all wrapped in cellophane
and of course when the chocolate egg had "disappeared" he always had the honour of holding my breakfast boiled eggs...
But as you can see Jenny not only sent me the piggy, but also some very pretty spring gifts and a little egg spoon..
Such kindness from a very sweet lady....Thank you so much Jenny "Custard"... Thea xx

Tray Bakes and the rest..*~*

I have had a baking day just to relax and gather myself..
It is a time when I can be "Me" ..............first I made sort of "healthy" Flapjack..
followed by a tray of Lemon Drizzle cake..not very healthy but very yummy!
It is disappearing as I speak...
So I thought I had better be good and  make a "healthy" dinner...
to make up for my baking weaknesses.......
a Rye bread pizza ...It turned out very well...

I thought I would end by showing you my new chair pads ..I found them in the Laura Ashley Sale..just what I was looking for

And these are my favourite  new flats at the moment ..so so comfy

What strange weather.. a few days ago we had snow. yesterday warm and sunny...Is that a sign of Spring ?
Thank you for reading my ramblings ...Thea xx
